The Maldives Police Service has reported a total of 1,101 road accidents across the Greater Malé Region during the first six months of 2025, including 61 incidents involving serious injuries or fatalities. The data covers accidents recorded between January 1 and June 30, including incidents that occurred in Malé City, on the Sinamalé Bridge, and surrounding highway areas.

Motorcycles and cars were the primary vehicles involved in most collisions. The highest number of cases involved motorcycle–car crashes (295), followed by motorcycle–motorcycle collisions (267). Malé City accounted for the bulk of the cases, with 911 accidents reported within the city, while 190 occurred on bridges and highways. A majority of the incidents (745) took place during the day, with 356 occurring at night. Approximately six per cent of the total accidents were categorised as serious, with 121 individuals requiring medical treatment for injuries. Around 90 per cent of the accidents resulted in vehicle damage.

The monthly breakdown of accidents is as follows: 151 in January, 215 in February, 187 in March, 161 in April, 207 in May, and 180 in June. With the number of road incidents steadily rising, authorities have urged the public to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and take collective responsibility in improving road safety.
