Ten arrested in Malé following narcotics operation

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed the seizure of suspected narcotics and alcohol during a counter-narcotics operation in Malé City, which led to the arrest of 10 individuals. The operation was carried out on Thursday, based on intelligence received by the Counter-Narcotics Intelligence unit.

According to a statement released by police on Sunday, officers raided two properties linked to the suspects and recovered 66.92 grams of drugs along with three bottles of alcohol.

The suspects were presented before the Criminal Court on Friday. Seven of them were granted conditional release, while three were remanded in custody.

The police identified the three individuals who remain in custody as follows:

  • Ahmed Thaiseer, aged 27, Seenu Hulhudhoo – remanded for seven days
  • Akram Mohamed, aged 28, Noonu Magoodhoo – remanded for five days
  • Aishath Faiha Thaha, aged 19, Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo – remanded for five days

In a separate incident on the same day, the police carried out another operation based on intelligence from the Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit. The information indicated that drugs were being transported by boat to Laamu Maamendhoo. Officers boarded the vessel and discovered 115 cellophane packets suspected to contain narcotics. The substances, found inside a box, weighed a total of 82 grams.

Additionally, police reported the disposal of a significant quantity of alcohol. On July 31, authorities destroyed 299 bottles of beer and 193 cans of beer in line with standard enforcement procedures.
