Malé Local Market

The temporary Ramadan market, “Dhanduveringe Baazaaru”, has opened in the North Harbour area of Malé to provide an organised space for farmers and island communities to sell locally grown produce brought to the capital during the fasting month.

The initiative, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, features participation from seven islands, including Shaviyani Goidhoo, Gaafu Alifu Nilandhoo and Thaa Kandoodhoo, with produce supplied by 10 farms certified under the Maldives Good Agricultural Practices (MGAP) programme. Only food items cultivated in the Maldives are permitted for sale, while non-agricultural products and foreign vendors are prohibited.

The market will operate daily from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and will remain open until 26 March, with vendors required to clear remaining goods at the end of Ramadan.
