The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has appointed Ismail Sajid as the new head of its Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), replacing Abdulla Ashraf as part of an internal restructuring to enhance the agency’s regulatory effectiveness.

Sajid, a former member of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, is set to assume the role on 4 August. He brings extensive experience from senior roles in the financial sector. The FIU operates under the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Act and is tasked with monitoring financial transactions and coordinating with law enforcement to combat financial crimes.

Ashraf, who previously led the FIU, has been reassigned as head of MMA’s Risk and Compliance Department.
