President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, stressing that unlawful conduct will not be tolerated in the Maldives.

Addressing Vaavu Felidhoo residents, the President said that enduring peace and stability can only be secured when every individual is treated equally before the law. He pledged to govern in line with Islamic principles and emphasised the responsibility of all Maldivians to preserve values rooted in the country’s Islamic identity. In this context, he highlighted the need for intellectual development and respect for human dignity, urging citizens to refrain from making unverified accusations against one another.

Turning to the role of public discourse, President Dr Muizzu noted that politicians, the media, and members of the public are free to share information, but stressed that this right must be exercised responsibly. He referenced the newly ratified Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act, which places restrictions on spreading baseless claims and requires that statements be supported with evidence. He encouraged citizens to think critically and form independent views rather than relying on prevailing public opinion.

Concluding his address, the President stated that Maldivians aspire to peace and harmony, and that the Government’s responsibility is to safeguard national unity by ensuring that laws are applied fairly, without bias or exception. He assured residents that his Administration will continue to act firmly against unlawful practices, while promoting a society grounded in justice, accountability, and respect for the truth.
