The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been awarded the contract to develop a modern airport in Faafu Nilandhoo, with construction set to be completed within 30 months.
The agreement was signed during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing tour of four atolls.
Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer signed on behalf of the Government, while MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed signed on behalf of the company.
Speaking to residents of Nilandhoo, President Dr Muizzu said one of his most important commitments to the island is the development of an airport, which he described as a state-of-the-art facility with an 1,800-metre runway.
The President said the project would cover all civil infrastructure works as well as operations, adding that MACL is tasked with building a state-of-the-art airport in Nilandhoo within 30 months. He assured residents that the project would begin immediately.
Nilandhoo Airport is among 12 new airports the Government has announced for development during this term.
