President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that practical work to establish a police station in Faafu Dharan’boodhoo will begin this year, as part of the Government’s efforts to strengthen public safety services across the country.

Speaking to residents of Dharan'boodhoo, the President said the Government aims to start developing police stations in all islands that do not yet have one, noting that around 12 islands remain without dedicated facilities.

He said the police service needs to be delivered at the level required, and that having a dedicated building would make it easier for officers to serve the community as thoroughly as possible.

The President also highlighted several other projects planned for Dharan’boodhoo. He said work will begin this year on a modern multi-purpose hall at the island’s school, which will also include three additional classrooms requested by residents.

In the health sector, the President assured that work on the island’s health centre will be completed within the next year. He added that the Government will allow the centre to hire an additional nurse in the meantime to ensure continuity of services.

In addition, President Dr Muizzu said the Fitness and Recreation Centre will be completed, as well as an outdoor volleyball court will be developed. Work on the football stadium will begin soon, and a running track will be established as part of the project.

During the tour, practical works and agreement signings have also been carried out to advance the Administration’s initiatives, including the development of police stations, recreation centres, hospitals and health centres.
