President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a jetty for reef fishing will be added to the shore protection project in Thaa Buruni, following a request from the island’s youth.

Speaking at a consultation meeting with island officials and residents on Tuesday, the President outlined several development projects planned for Buruni. He said practical work on the island’s harbour will also begin soon.

The President further revealed that the 2026 national budget will allocate funds for the construction of 30 housing units in Buruni, while planned investments in infrastructure, education, health, and housing will continue in line with community priorities.

At the same meeting, the contract to develop an outdoor volleyball court in Buruni was awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The President also listened to proposals from the island council and residents, with ministers and heads of state companies providing updates on ongoing projects and sharing details of future plans.
