President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that foreign transaction limits on Bank of Maldives (BML) credit cards will be increased from 1 February 2026.

Via his official X account on Monday, the President announced that foreign transaction limits on BML credit cards will be increased from 1 February 2026. The new limits will be: Classic cards from USD 750 to USD 1,400, Gold cards from USD 750 to USD 1,500, and Platinum cards from USD 1,500 to USD 2,000.

The announcement follows a recent decision to raise debit card overseas spending limits. During his visit to Meemu Muli earlier this month, President Dr Muizzu confirmed that effective 11 November, the overseas point-of-sale (POS) spending limit on debit cards will increase to USD 1,000. The limit for airline ticket purchases and hotel payments abroad will also be raised to USD 3,000, while travellers seeking medical treatment overseas will be able to pay medical expenses directly via debit cards upon request.

These changes form part of efforts to improve dollar access for citizens and businesses. The Foreign Currency Act, which came into effect on 1 January 2025, is a key element of this policy.
