President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the enduring friendship between the Maldives and China, describing it as a bond built on trust, respect, and shared progress.
Speaking at a reception in Malé to mark the 76th National Day of the People’s Republic of China, he extended congratulations to President Xi Jinping, the Chinese Government, and the people of China, while emphasising that the relationship goes beyond agreements to tangible benefits in housing, bridges, schools, and tourism.
The President noted China’s remarkable transformation over the past 75 years, from eliminating extreme poverty to global leadership in technology and infrastructure, saying it stands as an inspiration to the world. He stressed that small island nations like the Maldives face pressing challenges such as climate change and economic fragility, and welcomed China’s consistent support for multilateralism and advocacy for developing countries.
Looking ahead, Dr Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to deepen ties with China across politics, trade, culture, and education, calling the partnership a bridge strong enough to withstand time and essential for a sustainable and prosperous future.
