President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Dr Mohamed Muizzu has underscored that nurturing a generation of patriotic youth devoted to Islam and the nation is more crucial for the Maldives’ progress than large-scale infrastructure development.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the National Service Programme at a special ceremony held at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Composite Training Centre in Lhaviyani Maafilaafushi. The President presented the Maldivian flag, symbolising the launch of the National Service training programme.

The National Service Programme aims to cultivate responsible, patriotic, and well-rounded citizens who are physically, mentally, and spiritually strong. Its three-month training programme will cover responsible citizenship, leadership, language proficiency, education, fitness, and behaviour. Participants will also receive practical training in first aid, firefighting, and self-defence.

President Dr Muizzu encouraged the youth to view the training as an opportunity to secure a bright future, instilling patriotism, discipline, and religious values by its completion.

The ceremony was attended by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, State dignitaries, Cabinet ministers, senior Government officials, and MNDF leadership.
