President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian aid mission bound for Gaza, in international waters.
In a statement shared on his official X account, President Dr Muizzu described the incident as an act of intimidation that is “unacceptable and must not be tolerated.” He emphasised that targeting unarmed humanitarian vessels carrying essential relief to a population deprived of freedom and basic necessities represents “a grave affront to humanity and international law.”
The President further criticised Israel’s repeated disregard for human dignity, stating that its actions, showing “neither mercy nor compassion”, have only deepened its isolation from the international community.
Calling for decisive international intervention, President Dr Muizzu urged the global community to hold Israel accountable for its “gross and repeated violations of international law,” which he said “go far beyond the moral compass shared by humanity.”
Reaffirming the Maldives’ longstanding support for Palestine, President Dr Muizzu declared that the nation “stands in unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their just struggle for human rights, justice, peace, and security.”
