President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that teachers hold the greatest responsibility in shaping the Maldives’ future, describing their work as an honourable service that cannot be measured in material terms.
In a message shared on X to celebrate International Teachers’ Day, he stressed that today’s students, strong, courageous, and bright, will become tomorrow’s leaders through the guidance, education and compassion provided by their teachers. He extended his greetings to all teachers and prayed for the health and well-being of their families.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also paid tribute in her message, calling teachers the mothers, fathers and guardians of students who pass knowledge and skills from one generation to the next. She warned that without teachers, society would have no progress, vitality or hope, and conveyed her best wishes to educators across the Maldives.
International Teachers’ Day is observed globally on 5 October. Since its establishment in 1994, the day has been dedicated to recognising the contributions of teachers worldwide. This year’s theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” emphasises the importance of collective effort in strengthening the teaching profession
