President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to designate Uthuru Athafaru as part of Alifu Dhaalu Hangnaameedhoo.

Speaking to residents during his visit to the island, the President described Hangnaameedhoo as a key destination for tourism and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting its growth. As part of these efforts, Uthuru Athafaru will be designated as part of the island, with full Government support to facilitate its development. He noted that work is already underway to implement the decision.

The President also noted the lack of suitable areas within the atoll for hosting tourists and announced plans to designate Alikoi as a location where residents can visit with guests, aimed at strengthening regional tourism.

In his remarks, President Dr Muizzu reiterated his commitment to establish dollar ATMs across the country by the end of March next year. Following the installation of ATMs in major cities and urban centres, 40 islands will be selected for dollar ATM installation based on their current and potential bed capacity.

Highlighting the series of development projects initiated during his visit, the President said these projects will commence in line with the expectations of the residents.

He concluded by assuring that further projects are in the pipeline and that the future holds continued progress and development for Hangnaameedhoo.
