President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially handed over the documents transferring jurisdiction of Kudadhoo Falhu and two other lagoons to the Alifu Dhaalu Omadhoo Island Council.

The handover was conducted during the President’s visit to Omadhoo, where he also met with residents to discuss ongoing and planned development initiatives. Addressing the community, President Dr Muizzu assured that the government will extend full support to enable the use of the lagoons for tourism and other economic ventures.

As part of efforts to boost local tourism, the President announced that a Dollar ATM service will be introduced in Omadhoo early next year. This follows the nationwide initiative launched in November 2024 to provide Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM services to all inhabited islands.

During the visit, President Dr Muizzu also emphasised the Government’s commitment to monitoring the completion of the island’s water and sewerage project, urging the contractor to expedite the remaining work.

Several key infrastructure projects were launched during the visit. These include the signing of an agreement for the construction of a multipurpose hall at Omadhoo School, and the inauguration of a volleyball court, a new police station building, and a health centre. The physical work on the Omadhoo Council Office and a fitness and recreation centre was also inaugurated.
