President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has committed to fast-tracking the development of Mandhoo Island’s harbour and jetty, reaffirming the Government’s dedication to advancing vital infrastructure projects for the island.
He made the announcement during an interaction with Mandhoo residents, where he also highlighted plans for education and youth development.
Addressing the community, the President confirmed that work on upgrading the harbour and constructing a jetty would commence without delay, describing the project as a top priority for the island’s residents.
He further assured that construction of 12 new classrooms and a multipurpose hall at Mandhoo School is scheduled to begin in November 2025, with the facility expected to be operational before the end of the 2027 academic year. The President emphasised that the project would proceed uninterrupted, bringing significant benefits to students and parents alike.
President Dr Muizzu also highlighted ongoing sports initiatives, noting that these projects will provide new opportunities and facilities for the island’s youth. He stressed that the Government would work closely with relevant institutions and companies to ensure timely completion of all development projects.
During the meeting, residents raised concerns regarding school counselling services, housing issues, conversion of the school to a single-session system, early introduction of the RTL ferry service, boosting trade and economic activities, and expanding local tourism. The President assured that these matters would be referred to the relevant ministries and addressed in the next year’s budget.
