Retina laser treatment has been launched in the Maldives, with the service now available at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The treatment was officially inaugurated at the hospital on Wednesday.

Retinal laser treatment plays a crucial role in protecting the vision of premature babies, who are among the most vulnerable patients requiring specialised care.

According to Malé City Group of Hospitals CEO Abdul Razzaq Haleem, the new service provides an important treatment option to protect the vision of premature babies, ensuring timely access to specialised care.

“I would like to take this opportunity to welcome and thank the doctors and nurses of the Ophthalmology Department of IGMH Hospital,” Haleem wrote in a post on X.

Earlier this month, IGMH also performed endoscopic spine surgery for the first time in the Maldives, a significant step in expanding advanced medical procedures within the country.
