President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that, as a 100 per cent Muslim nation, the Maldives must place its highest priority on advancing Qur’an and Islamic knowledge. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 37th National Qur’an Competition, the President reiterated his Administration’s commitment to nurturing a society grounded in the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah.
Calling for collective action across all sectors, President Dr Muizzu urged individuals, families, and organisations to give prominence to Qur’an recitation and Islamic learning. He stressed that true success can only be attained by adhering to the teachings of the Qur’an and Islam, and that promoting these values should be considered a shared national responsibility.
Reaffirming his Administration’s vision to uphold Islamic principles, the President stated that spreading knowledge of the Holy Qur’an will remain a top Government priority. The President also highlighted that the Government aims to promote the adornment of Islamic culture in daily life, ensuring that religious identity and values remain central to national development.
Reflecting on the nation’s cultural heritage, he noted that Maldivians have long been a people of mutual respect, compassion, and unity. He emphasised that true development is not solely measured by infrastructure, but by the cultivation of minds, values, and character in line with Islamic teachings.
He further stated that Islamic faith must be deeply rooted in both heart and mind, urging all Maldivians to embrace Islam as the nation’s greatest source of pride and to ensure its values are preserved for future generations.
Concluding his remarks, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed that championing Islam remains a cornerstone of his Administration’s policy, with continued initiatives aimed at advancing Islamic education, strengthening Qur’anic institutions, and fostering a society that reflects the principles of Islam in every aspect of life.
