President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has revised the questions to be presented in the forthcoming referendum on the administrative structure of Addu City. The referendum, which seeks the views of residents in Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo, will now ask only about the creation of separate local councils for each constituency.

The Presidential Decree issued today under the advisement of the Cabinet, amends the referendum questions previously proposed by the Government.

With this, the proposal to form a joint council for Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo has been withdrawn. Instead, the referendum will now focus on whether each constituency should have its own council.

The revised referendum questions are as follows:

  • For Addu Hulhudhoo: Should a separate council be established for Addu Hulhudhoo?
  • For Addu Meedhoo: Should a separate council be established for Addu Meedhoo?
  • For Addu Feydhoo: Should a separate council be established for Addu Feydhoo?

The Elections Commission has confirmed that the referendum will take place on 25 October 2025 and will be open to all registered voters in the respective constituencies.
