President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to prioritise the completion of the long-delayed new school building in Shaviyani Feydhoo. The President made the announcement while addressing residents of the island during his ongoing visit to the atoll.
The project, which involves the construction of eight classrooms and a multipurpose hall, has remained incomplete for two years despite being awarded to two separate companies. Work on the site has been at a standstill for the past six months.
President Dr Muizzu assured residents that his Administration would ensure the project’s completion without further delays. He emphasised that the Government would not renew existing agreements and would instead take direct steps to carry out the remaining work, including the completion of classrooms and the multipurpose hall.
In addition to the school project, President Dr Muizzu highlighted several other development initiatives planned for Feydhoo. He announced that 10 roads on the island will be developed as part of an ongoing road development project.
He further revealed that the construction of a new mosque with the capacity to accommodate 500 people will be included in next year’s national budget, noting that the facility will be equipped with all necessary amenities and that work is expected to begin early next year.
Addressing sports infrastructure, the President stated that the development of a handball court and the turfing of the football stadium will be contracted to a private company within this year.
On healthcare, President Dr Muizzu said the Government plans to upgrade the Feydhoo Health Centre into a 24-hour facility and will continue recruiting staff to meet service demands. He added that additional wards and service areas will be included in the centre’s expansion, with the extension building expected to be awarded to a contractor later this year.
