President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has committed to address the electricity challenges faced by residents of Shaviyani Lhaimagu and to enhance health services on the island.

The President made the remarks while speaking at a meeting with the people of Lhaimagu, emphasising the Government’s commitment to the island’s ongoing development.

President Dr Muizzu outlined several key projects planned for Lhaimagu, including the construction of a Fitness and Recreation Centre, a new health centre, and a council building, confirming that these initiatives would be prioritised and implemented promptly.

He also announced that the development of a new office building for the local school will be included in next year’s budget. In addition, renovations of the futsal ground, construction of a swimming track, and the establishment of a private police building are scheduled for the coming year.

The new school building is expected to include a library, a science room, and a health room, while health services on the island will be extended to 16 hours once the facility is completed. The health centre will feature a four-bed ward, a nurse station, a laboratory, a procedure room, a private room, and a garage.

The President also addressed other local infrastructure concerns, assuring that issues related to the harbour and the handball court would be resolved, and reiterating that efforts are underway to rectify the electricity problems affecting the island.

On education and religious development, President Dr Muizzu confirmed that branches of the Centre for the Holy Quran will be established across all Maldivian islands over the next three years, with one branch to be set up in Lhaimagu as part of this nationwide project.
