Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has announced that interviews with senior citizens across the Maldives will begin next month as part of efforts to collect historical information for research purposes.

Speaking in Parliament, the Minister said the project will focus on gathering and preserving stories from individuals over the age of 50 to document the country’s history and traditions. He noted that information will be collected from different parts of the Maldives and used to support ongoing historical research.

The Minister stated that discussions have already been held with 70 island councils regarding the project, and details on how the work will proceed have been shared with them.

Highlighting the Government’s policy on heritage preservation, Minister Naseer said special priority is being given to protecting, restoring and maintaining heritage sites while also creating opportunities to generate income through cultural tourism. He added that efforts are underway to develop heritage areas that will attract visitors and promote awareness of Maldivian history and culture.
