The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to develop a fitness and recreation centre, a volleyball court, and carry out a coastal protection project in Laamu Kunahandhoo. The agreements were signed during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island, attended by Minister of Sports and Health Abdulla Rafiu, MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee, and members of the island council.
The MVR 4.9 million fitness and recreation centre will span 4,005 square feet and be completed within 240 days, while the MVR 1.2 million volleyball court is scheduled for completion in 120 days. Alongside these, the coastal protection project aims to strengthen Kunahandhoo’s shoreline and mitigate erosion, aligning with the government’s broader focus on community development, environmental protection, and promoting healthier lifestyles across the islands.
