Two new judges appointed to the Family Court

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed two new judges to the Family Court.

The appointees are Uz Ahmed Mausoom and Uz Mohamed Zahid.

The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Supreme Court, where both judges were sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Aisha Shujoon Mohamed.

Uz Ahmed Mausoom has been serving as a Legal Officer at the Family Court since January 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Service and Community Development from Al-Azhar University, a Bachelor of Sharia with Honours from the Islamic University of Maldives, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Sharia and Law and a Master of Sharia from Villa College.

Uz Mohamed Zahid holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sharia and Law from Al-Azhar University and a Master of Judicial Science and Sharia Policy from the Islamic University of Maldives. His previous experience includes serving as Deputy State Attorney from June 2011 to August 2013, Principal Counsel from August 2016 to November 2017, and Judge at Baa Dharavandhoo Magistrate Court from August 2013 to March 2016. He has also worked as a lawyer for over six years.
