The Maldives has been awarded Best Beach Destination 2025 at the World Tourism Awards ceremony held in Brussels, Belgium, strengthening its standing as a leading global travel destination.

Representing the Maldives at the event, Former President and Special Envoy Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan accepted the award on behalf of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Delivering remarks at the ceremony, Dr Waheed extended the President’s appreciation for the international recognition and reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to preserving its natural environment.

The award, presented as part of the Global Tourism Forum Annual Meeting 2025, honours destinations that exemplify excellence in coastal and marine tourism. The Maldives was commended for its white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life, which continue to draw travellers from around the world.

Held under the theme “Redefining Tourism in a Changing World,” the forum brought together tourism leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss sustainable growth and innovation within the sector.
