President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that it is his responsibility to listen closely to residents and deliver on their aspirations.
Speaking to Laamu Maabaidhoo residents during his visit to the island, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling all pledges made to the people of Maabaidhoo. The President said that although weather conditions prevented the official inauguration of the planned projects, all scheduled works will proceed as planned. He added that official ceremonies are only held once the projects are ready to commence.
Highlighting several initiatives that were scheduled for inauguration but could not be held due to weather conditions, the President noted the commencement of BML ATM services, along with the practical works for the ice plant, Quran Centre, and Fitness and Recreation Centre. He also mentioned the agreements signed during his visit for the shore protection project, a multipurpose school hall, and a football ground, assuring that all these projects will be completed.
Further developments planned include the handover and commencement of practical works for a new police post within the year, along with the resumption of works on the island’s unfinished futsal ground.
The President also revealed that the 2026 State Budget will include provisions for a volleyball court and the expansion of the Health Centre’s services to operate 24 hours a day through increased staffing. Additionally, plans are in place for the construction of a new council secretariat and the provision of an extra generator to resolve electricity issues on the island.
