President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a total of 300 housing units will be established in Laamu Gan this year, alongside compensation payments for residents relocated under population consolidation efforts.

He had previously noted that Laamu Gan will be home to one of the largest housing projects in the country.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment to compensating those who relocated to Gan from other islands, stating that the necessary funds have already been arranged. He said that officials from relevant ministries will soon visit the island to collect the required information, after which MVR 8.45 million will be deposited into the accounts of beneficiaries at a rate of MVR 50,000 each.
Highlighting ongoing efforts to boost tourism development in atolls where the sector remains underdeveloped, the President said that work is progressing across various stages in Laamu Atoll, including the agreement signed the same evening for the development of a tourist resort in Gasgandu Finolhu.
The President highlighted that Laamu Gan is one of the largest inhabited islands in terms of both size and population, yet it had not received adequate development in the past. He stressed his belief in ensuring equal development for all islands without discrimination, adding that peace and progress can only be achieved through fairness and equality.
