Work has commenced on the installation of a sewerage system in the newly settled Thundi area of Laamu Gan and the construction of a rehabilitation centre on the island
The commencement ceremonies were held during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Laamu Atoll. The President attended both events.
The sewerage project was inaugurated by Minister of Construction and Housing Dr Abdulla Muththalib, and attended by Gan Constituency MP Yoosuf Nasheed, members of Gan Council, and the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed.
Valued at MVR 36.53 million, the project will establish a full sewerage network, including the main pipeline, sea outfall, pump stations, and household connections, providing modern sanitation services for residents of Thundi.
Meanwhile, the groundbreaking for the Rehabilitation Centre in Gan was officiated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan. The centre will focus on rehabilitation and reintegration, offering essential social and health support services.
Both projects mark key steps in advancing infrastructure and community development in Laamu Atoll.
