President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé after concluding a three-day tour of all eleven inhabited islands in Laamu Atoll.
During the visit, the President travelled to Kunahandhoo, Hithadhoo, Maamendhoo, Fonadhoo, Maavah, Gan, Mundoo, Maabaidhoo, Kalaidhoo, Isdhoo, and Dhan’bidhoo, where he met with Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), and residents to discuss community well-being and local development priorities.
Throughout the tour, several development projects were officially launched, and new agreements were signed for future initiatives in key sectors such as housing, infrastructure, healthcare, education, social welfare, and financial services. The President assured that all projects will move forward as planned under close Government monitoring and noted that official inauguration ceremonies are held only once projects are ready to commence.
Addressing residents, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to strengthening air connectivity within the atoll. He announced that feasibility studies are underway to identify a suitable location for a new airport, while the ongoing development of Kadhdhoo Airport will be completed and upgraded to international status within three years.
The President also highlighted that his pledge to establish permanent police presence across all inhabited islands has now been fully realised. Additionally, he announced new social welfare measures, including an increase in the single parent allowance to MVR 3,000 and the introduction of a MVR 1,000 monthly allowance for thalassaemia patients, effective from January 2026.
President Dr Muizzu’s visit formed part of his ongoing commitment to personally engage with communities across the country and ensure that the Government’s development agenda reflects the needs and aspirations of the people.
