President reaffirms commitment to football development during courtesy call by FIFA President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to developing football in the Maldives.
The President made these remarks during a courtesy call paid by FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Friday evening at the President’s Office.
During the call, President Dr Muizzu warmly welcomed Infantino to the Maldives and expressed his appreciation for taking the time to visit the country. He described football as the nation’s most popular sport and a unifying force among Maldivians, highlighting the Government’s focus on improving sports infrastructure across the islands this year and next. The President also reiterated his full support for the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and its leadership in advancing the sport nationwide.
Infantino acknowledged the challenges Maldivian football has faced in recent years but said he was pleased with the progress being made. He commended the efforts of the new FAM leadership and assured FIFA’s continued support for football development in the Maldives.
He also highlighted the importance of nurturing young players, noting that sustained investment in youth development would allow the Maldives to stand out globally not only for its natural beauty but also for its achievements in football.
The meeting concluded with both President Dr Muizzu and Infantino reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening football in the Maldives, supporting FAM’s growth, and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
