Parliament has voted in favour of appointing Manadhoo MP Husnee Mubarak as the legislative representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The seat became vacant following the resignation of Inguraidhoo MP Hussain Riza Adam, who also served as the chairman of the JSC. Riza resigned from both positions on Sunday without stating a specific reason.

During Monday’s sitting, Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah nominated Husnee Mubarak for the post, with Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas seconding the nomination. A total of 58 MPs voted in favour of his appointment.

The JSC, which is composed of 10 members, is responsible for the appointment, transfer, and disciplinary matters of judges.

Under the Judicial Service Commission Act, any vacancy on the commission must be filled within 30 days by the authority that made the original appointment.
