Australia has donated surveillance drones to the Maldives Customs Service to support efforts to enhance monitoring and strengthen security across the nation’s borders and ports.

A handover ceremony was held on Monday, with Australian High Commissioner David Jessop and Commissioner General of Customs Fathimath Dhiyana in attendance.

Dhiyana expressed gratitude to the Australian Government and the Australian Border Force for their continued support, noting that the new drones will significantly improve surveillance capabilities at customs-controlled zones, including key port and border areas.

The Australian High Commission stated the donation forms part of a wider partnership aimed at ensuring the safety and stability of the Indian Ocean region.

Dhiyana added that the assistance will further reinforce the Maldives Customs Service’s ongoing work in border enforcement and port management.
