Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced ATM services to every inhabited island in the country under its ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at a ceremony where BML also launched its new corporate campaign ‘Dhiveheenge Bank – Mulhi Raajje ah’ and unveiled its new digital wallet, Swipe.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the guest of honour at the event, presented special recognition to the project team for completing the ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ initiative in record time.
According to BML, the first ATM under the project was installed in February 2025. In just nine months, the Bank successfully rolled out ATMs to 105 islands across all 20 atolls. The implementation was completed 33 per cent more cost-effectively compared to traditional ATM installations.
BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef said the project fulfilled the Bank’s commitment to ensuring access to banking services for every citizen, regardless of location. He said the initiative was designed to meet the needs of the people and was completed with speed and efficiency, crediting the dedication of the project team for making the goal a reality.
The ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project has also earned international recognition. The Bank received the ‘Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Financial Inclusion’ award from Qorus, a global organisation that recognises excellence in the financial sector.
