The Maldives Zakat House has announced that it will allocate MVR 340,000 from the Zakat Fund to assist 14 individuals registered as low income in making down payments for flats received under social housing schemes.
The decision was made following discussions with the Zakat Council, after identifying that several individuals registered with the state as low income were facing challenges in meeting housing downpayment requirements. The payments will be made directly to the relevant government authorities rather than the recipients.
According to the Zakat House, each beneficiary’s status will later be reviewed based on any improvements to their quality of life following the assistance. The initiative aims to provide long-term stability and support efforts to enhance the living conditions of low-income citizens.
Additionally, the Zakat House announced plans to introduce a zakat beneficiary card to facilitate access to aid for expenses not covered under the Aasandha health insurance scheme, as well as for food, education, and housing needs.
