The Ministry of Finance and Planning has invited proposals for the design of new hospital buildings in Fuvahmulah City, Laamu Fonadhoo, and Faafu Nilandhoo, under the Health Sector Development Project funded by the Saudi Fund for Development.
According to the Ministry, the project aims to strengthen regional healthcare infrastructure through the development of Gnaviyani Atoll Hospital in Fuvahmulah City, Laamu Gan Regional Hospital, and Nilandhoo Atoll Hospital. The selected consultant will be responsible for conducting surveys, preparing preliminary and detailed designs, tender documents, and the environmental impact assessment report, as well as reviewing contractor works.
Interested firms have been invited to submit expressions of interest before 2 p.m. on 4 December 2025. The consultant will be chosen in line with the procurement guidelines of the Saudi Fund for Development.
The initiative follows President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visits to several atolls earlier this year, where he reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to expanding tertiary healthcare services across the country. During his visit to Laamu Atoll in October, the Government awarded the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) the contract to upgrade the Gan Regional Hospital to a tertiary-level facility.
Similarly, during his September visit to Faafu Nilandhoo, President Dr Muizzu announced plans to establish a 50-bed full-fledged hospital in the island, confirming that funding for the project had been arranged through the Saudi Fund.
President Dr Muizzu has also highlighted that the hospital in Fuvahmulah City is currently not in the best condition, noting that his Administration aims to transform it into a modern tertiary hospital capable of providing advanced healthcare services to the southern region.
