Land reclamation works at Gaafu Alifu Kolamaafushi have reached 92 per cent completion, according to the latest update from the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The project, contracted to MTCC in 2023 with practical work beginning in April 2024, involves reclaiming 9.16 hectares of land at a cost of MVR 44.33 million.

Kolamaafushi, home to around 1,600 residents, is one of the larger islands in Gaafu Alifu Atoll but continues to face land shortages due to growing housing needs. The reclamation project aims to address these constraints and create space for future residential and community development.
