Five major development projects launched in Fuvahmulah City

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Fuvahmulah City saw the launch of five major infrastructure and community projects, reflecting the Administration’s continued commitment to expanding essential services across the nation.

Groundbreaking on the construction of 400 housing units was inaugurated by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib, alongside parliamentarians from Fuvahmulah’s three constituencies. The project, awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), aims to ease housing demand and improve living conditions for residents.

In addition, a new police accommodation facility was inaugurated by Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen and MTCC CEO Ahmed Saudee, providing upgraded living quarters for officers stationed in the city. Meanwhile, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts Ibrahim Waheed, together with MTCC officials, inititated work on a National Library branch project, set to serve as a modern hub for education, research, and community learning.

Two additional initiatives were launched to strengthen local infrastructure and public services. The construction of a five-storey building for GN Atoll Education Centre, and a Waste Management Centre, both were inaugurated by Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar. The waste management project was contracted to the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) and aims to enhance sustainable waste practices within the city.

As part of his visit, President Dr Muizzu is meeting with local council, women’s development committees, and residents, underscoring the Government’s goal of improving infrastructure, decentralised governance, and quality of life in every inhabited island. The five projects collectively reflects a significant step in transforming Fuvahmulah into a more connected, sustainable, and vibrant city.
