Government awards 31 new projects to strengthen education infrastructure across Maldives

Thirty-one new projects in the education sector have been awarded to private companies as part of the Government’s efforts to enhance education infrastructure across the Maldives.

The agreements were formalised between the Ministry of Education, the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), and several private contractors at a ceremony held at Barceló Nasandhura. The projects encompass the construction of new classrooms, multipurpose halls, and science laboratories, as well as the development of IUM campuses and hostels in the atolls.

Among the key initiatives are the establishment of additional classrooms and multipurpose halls in schools across various islands, the development of administrative blocks, science laboratories, and sports facilities, and renovation works in 50 schools nationwide.

Major contractors involved include AIG Investment, Alitho Construction Pvt Ltd, Centillion Pvt Ltd, Inoka Pvt Ltd, Flexinc Pvt Ltd, Heavy Force Pvt Ltd, Noofaru Enterprises Pvt Ltd, Optima Holding Pvt Ltd, Solex Pvt Ltd, Waleed Construction, and Swift Engineering Pvt Ltd.

Under the agreements, AIG Investment will develop new classrooms in Raa Ungoofaaru School and improve infrastructure in Thaa Kandoodhoo School. Alitho Construction will build a multipurpose hall at Laamu Thinadhoo School and additional facilities in Raa Rasgetheemu. Flexinc Pvt Ltd will undertake multiple projects, including the construction of science laboratories, multipurpose halls, and renovation works in schools across the country.

In addition to school development, Swift Engineering Pvt Ltd has been contracted to develop IUM campuses and hostels in Shaviyani Fonadhoo, Lhaviyani Naifaru, Lhaviyani Hinnavaru, and Thaa Veymandoo, expanding higher education opportunities in the atolls.
