The Maldives Immigration has detained five undocumented migrants during an operation conducted in Malé on Thursday night.

In a statement on X, the authority said the operation targeted individuals residing in the country without valid visas and those involved in unauthorised business activities. The task force inspected two cafés in Malé, where the five migrants were taken into custody.

The operation is part of Immigration’s ongoing efforts to address illegal migration in the Maldives. The Home Ministry is also carrying out Operation Kurangi, an initiative to register all migrants and collect their biometric data to strengthen monitoring and regulation.

The Government has pledged to resolve the issue of illegal migration within the first three years of its current term.
