Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, has stated that the redevelopment of Hanimaadhoo International Airport will deliver a major economic boost to Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo and the wider northern region.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Shareef described the project as a “new lease of life” for the northern Maldives, forecasting significant job creation and accelerated regional development. He said the upgraded airport would act as a catalyst for economic transformation and fulfil a long-standing aspiration of the people in the northern atolls.
Shareef highlighted that when the current Administration assumed office, only around 28–30 per cent of the project had been completed, with the remaining 72 per cent finalised under the present Government. He noted that key infrastructure, including the passenger terminal, cargo terminal, jetty, fire station and power station, was completed through the current Administration’s efforts.
He expressed his appreciation to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib for their leadership and support in ensuring the timely completion of the project.
