Minister of Civil Aviation and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of India, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday morning at the President’s Office.

The visit followed the inauguration of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport, which the Minister jointly inaugurated with President Dr Muizzu.

During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu extended his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government of India for their longstanding and generous support towards the Maldives’ socio-economic development. He conveyed particular gratitude for India’s assistance in ensuring the timely completion and opening of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport, which he said will strengthen regional connectivity and contribute to national progress.

The Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project was financed through India’s Line of Credit. President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed that India continues to be a steadfast partner in the Maldives’ development efforts and expressed confidence in the ongoing cooperation between the two nations to ensure all joint projects are completed and operationalised without delay.

Minister Naidu congratulated the Government of the Maldives on the successful inauguration of the airport, noting that Prime Minister Modi had personally overseen the completion of the project. He highlighted the shared commitment of Prime Minister Modi and President Dr Muizzu to the development of the Indian Ocean region and assured that India will continue to support the Maldives in completing and operationalising all ongoing projects as scheduled.

Concluding the meeting, both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing initiatives that deliver mutual benefits for the Maldives and India.
