President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inspected the ongoing Hulhumalé Phase III land reclamation project, a key Government initiative aimed at easing housing shortages in the Malé region.

The project, launched in September 2023, had experienced delays due to revisions to the Hulhumalé Master Plan. Land reclamation work on the remaining area resumed this evening.

The Hulhumalé Phase III reclamation is being carried out by Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Private Limited (CMC) using a 22,000-cubic-metre dredger from Boskalis. Once completed, the project will reclaim a total of 63 hectares of land, of which 24 hectares have already been reclaimed.

The Government has also introduced special measures to accelerate land reclamation projects across various parts of the country as part of its ongoing efforts to address housing demand and promote balanced urban development.
