Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has described the ratification of the First Amendment to the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Act by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as a transformative milestone for the Maldives, which will usher in a new era of large-scale, sustainable real estate and integrated township development.

In a statement on X, Minister Saeed highlighted that this landmark reform reinforces the Maldives’ position within the global investment landscape, fostering innovation, expanding economic opportunities, and promoting inclusive national growth. He noted that by aligning with emerging global real estate trends, the Maldives is opening pathways to new income streams, employment opportunities, and enduring economic prosperity.

The amendment to the SEZ Act is part of the Government’s economic reform agenda, aimed at attracting high-value foreign investment, diversifying economic activity, and establishing the Maldives as a competitive and sustainable investment destination.
