President offers condolences and affirms solidarity with India following Delhi blast

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his profound sorrow over the tragic loss of life following a car explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort. In a statement on his official X account, the President  extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and conveyed his best wishes for a swift recovery to those injured. 

He affirmed that the Maldives stands in solidarity with the people and government of India during this difficult time.

According to Indian authorities, at least eight people were killed in the blast, with a further 19 reported injured. Investigations into the cause of the explosion are underway, with officials stating that all possibilities are being explored.

The blast occurred close to a metro station near the Red Fort, a 17th-century Mughal fortress and one of Delhi’s most iconic landmarks. The site is historically significant, hosting annual Independence Day speeches by Indian Prime Ministers and attracting thousands of tourists each year.

In response to the incident, security measures have been heightened in Mumbai, India’s financial capital, and in Uttar Pradesh, the neighbouring state.

President Dr Muizzu’s statement underscores the Maldives’ continued support for India and highlights the enduring ties between the two nations, emphasising unity in the face of tragedy.
