President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conferred the Most Distinguished Service Medal on Moosa Anwar in recognition of his more than 40 years of dedicated service to the Maldivian health sector.
The award, the highest national honour in the field of health service, was presented during the Republic Day ceremony.
Moosa Anwar began his career in healthcare at the age of 16 at the Royal Air Force Regional Medical Centre in Seenu Gan. In 1977, he moved to Malé and joined the Allied Health Service Centre as a practical nurse, where he trained nurses, community health workers, and family health workers, while also introducing modern training methods for midwives.
Throughout his career, Moosa Anwar served in several key positions within the Ministry of Health, contributing significantly to the development of hospitals and the expansion of health services across the atolls. He also played an important role in the transition of Malé Central Hospital into Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Most recently, he served at the Maldives Food and Drug Authority.
President Dr Muizzu presented the award in recognition of Moosa Anwar’s long-standing contributions to the advancement of the health sector and his efforts to improve public health awareness in the Maldives.
