The land reclamation and shore protection projects in Kaafu Gulhi have been successfully completed, highlighting a key milestone in strengthening the island’s resilience and supporting its growing local tourism sector. The projects, contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in March 2023, included the installation of 940 metres of rock revetment and 362 metres of geobag revetment to protect the coastline. A ceremony was held in Gulhi to commemorate the completion, attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, cabinet ministers, senior officials, council members, and residents. During the event, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib presented a commemorative plaque to Gulhi Island Council President Moosa Safeel. The Government stated that the project will not only resolve land and housing constraints but also boost economic growth on the island.
