The National News Agency (NNA) has been officially launched, introducing a comprehensive platform designed to strengthen the Maldivian media sector by offering free, high-quality content and expanding opportunities for private media organisations.

The initiative, developed jointly by the President’s Office, the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and the Arts, and Public Service Media (PSM), aims to enhance the capacity of local journalists, support newsroom development, and improve nationwide access to reliable media resources.

At the launch ceremony, the NNA’s logo, official website, and accreditation cards were introduced by President’s Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed, Minister of State for Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts Ali Shamaan, and PSM Managing Director Ibrahim Nasreen.

Following the unveiling, agreements were signed with the first 20 private media outlets registered to join the platform.

Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister Shamaan noted that the NNA would serve as a vital tool for media development, providing a central hub where registered broadcasters and online media can access raw, high-quality videos, photos, and other materials from events covered by PSM.

PSM Managing Director Nasreen reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to empowering the private media sector. He announced that NNA members would be given free access to extensive raw footage, including coverage of major incidents and public events, with premium packages to be introduced later. He also highlighted plans to explore content-sharing collaborations with international media partners.
