President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated a futsal ground in Alifu Dhaalu Mandhoo and taken part in a friendly match held as part of the opening ceremony.

The youth of Mandhoo had long requested the completion of the unfinished futsal ground, a project that had remained stalled for more than 10 years. During his visit to the island last month, they appealed directly to the President to complete the facility, which had been handed over to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The Government subsequently completed the work within one month.

Residents also invited the President to attend the ground’s opening ceremony ahead of an upcoming atoll-level tournament, noting that Mandhoo had gone years without a proper sporting venue. The President’s presence at today’s inauguration was met with great enthusiasm from the community.

The futsal ground was officially opened after one and a half months of work carried out in response to the youth’s request. Following the inauguration, a friendly match was played between Government officials and Mandhoo Island Council members. President Dr Muizzu was joined on the field by Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef and several Cabinet Ministers.

During the visit, the President spent time with island residents, who presented him with a special plaque in appreciation of the project’s completion.
