Twenty high-speed generator sets have been added to the electricity grid over the past two years to strengthen power capacity in Malé area.

Former State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) Managing Director Hussain Fahmy previously stated that the former MDP administration had failed to adequately expand electricity services in the capital.

Since President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took office, STELCO has undertaken extensive efforts to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, even during peak-load hours.

As part of these efforts, STELCO installed new high-speed generator sets in Hulhumalé and established additional annex facilities to support the growing demand for electricity.

In 2024, STELCO installed 1.6 MW high-speed generator sets at the Hulhumalé Phase I annex. In 2025, another annex was developed in Hulhumalé Phase II, where 12 additional 1.6 MW high-speed generator sets were installed.

These upgrades have significantly strengthened the electricity grid’s capacity across the Malé region, enabling STELCO to provide reliable and uninterrupted power despite the rising demand.
