The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that RTL ferry services between Noonu and Raa Atoll will commence this Sunday, expanding the Government’s ongoing efforts to build a nationwide high-speed ferry network.

According to MTCC, the service launch follows the completion of the second phase of the Integrated National Public Ferry Network in Zone 2, which covers Noonu and Raa Atolls. The company confirmed that the new ferry operating on the route will have a capacity of 32 passengers, including two designated seats for individuals with special needs registered with NSPA.

The RTL ferry network was first introduced in Noonu Atoll last year, while the service in Raa Atoll began in July this year. MTCC stated that establishing a direct link between the two atolls will bring significant economic and social benefits to residents, improving connectivity, reducing travel barriers, and supporting movement between the islands for work, education, and services.

Passengers wishing to travel between Noonu and Raa Atolls must purchase tickets through the RTL website or the RTL Travel mobile application, MTCC added.

The Integrated National Public Ferry Network was contracted to MTCC in 2022, with the Maldives divided into six zones under the system. Ferry services have since been launched in 12 atolls, with the most recent expansion in Thaa Atoll. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the RTL service will be rolled out across all atolls within the next five months, marking a major milestone in national transport connectivity.
